Madingley Road
The A1303 west out of Cambridge towards the M11, past West Cambridge, Churchill College and Lucy Cavendish.
The A1303 reaches Junction 13 of the M11 by way of Madingley Road, a major arterial route west out of central Cambridge. In town the A1303 carries on as Northampton Street, Chesterton Lane and Chesterton Road, and the A1134, Queens' Road, crosses to the south. The village of Coton lies south of the western end. The road also skirts West Cambridge, a big site to which university departments have been moving.
What lies along it
Near the city the frontage is mostly large detached houses, and Grange Road and Wilberforce Road both turn off it.
A run of science and research places stand on or close to the road, among them the Cavendish Laboratory, the Computer Laboratory, the Whittle Laboratory and the School of Veterinary Science. The Cambridge Observatory, the British Antarctic Survey and the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial are also close by, along with a former Royal Greenwich Observatory site, Marshall House (earlier known as Balliol Croft) and the university athletics track.
Two colleges are on the list too. Churchill College is entered from Storey's Way, and Lucy Cavendish College is also close to the road. The West Road Concert Hall page mentions the Madingley Road Park and Ride as a place for visitors arriving by car to leave their vehicles.
