Hills Road is a state sixth form college for 16 to 19 year olds. Its first day was 15 September 1974, and it took over the buildings of what had been the Cambridgeshire High School for Boys, as the county moved to a pattern of 11 to 16 comprehensive schools feeding sixth form colleges. During 2024 and 2025 it marked fifty years of sixth form education.

What it offers

The college's website centres on A level study, with a course finder for each subject. It sets out a Year 12 programme called Future Ready, which is about personal and social development and life skills rather than examined subjects, and it advertises a Bursary Fund for students who need help with the costs of study. The website also lists a separate adult education programme and facilities for exams and hire.

The campus

The site has grown in stages: a sports and tennis centre arrived in 1995, science departments gained a new building in 2004, a guidance centre followed in 2005, the mathematics and PE departments moved into a new building in 2016, and a study centre opened in 2023.

Long Road Sixth Form College also dates from 1974.

Practical notes

Applications, open events and course information are handled through the college's own website. The postcode is CB2 8PE.
