The Corpus Playroom is a studio theatre owned by Corpus Christi College and run by the ADC Theatre. It occupies a Grade II listed building on St Edward's Passage, near King's Parade.

Origins

The Playroom opened in 1979 in two disused rooms belonging to the college. For 22 years the college drama society, the Fletcher Players, ran it, and from 2001 the Players shared it for a decade with the Cambridge Arts Theatre. By 2011 it had a reputation among students second only to the ADC and had been opened up to the wider Cambridge community. A redevelopment in 2010-11 brought new seating, backstage improvements and a box office. The work cost £85,000, more than half of which the University contributed through the ADC.

What to expect

  • An L-shaped studio. The venue describes itself as Cambridge's primary fringe space, with an emphasis on new writing.
  • The programme. Seasons are programmed alongside the ADC, and during term there are normally two shows a night.
  • Who is involved. Productions are student-led, and the Fletcher Players remain resident and help to programme the seasons.

Practical notes

Tickets and the programme are handled through the ADC Theatre's website and box office. The Playroom's own page there is the best source for the current season, since shows change weekly.
