Golpo calls itself a Bengal cafe and restaurant, at 36-38 Hills Road. The name is a Bengali word for a story or tale, and the website tells how two friends on a short trip to Bangladesh, chatting over chai, discovered they shared a dream of bringing modern Bengal cuisine to Cambridge.

What to expect

The restaurant says it aims to stay true to the traditional methods and flavours of Bengal, using fresh, good-quality ingredients, and to make a meal feel like a narrative. There are separate lunch, dinner, takeaway, drinks and party menus, and catering. There is also a non-alcoholic bar page, and online ordering and reservation buttons sit on every page.

Bringing your own

Golpo has a published BYOB policy: guests may bring their own beer or wine for a corkage fee of £1.50 per person. Soft drinks and spirits are not permitted. A cakeage fee of £1.50 per person applies if you bring a cake, which covers service, plating and presentation; the restaurant asks for notice so it can prepare.
