The Tivoli is at 16 Chesterton Road, beside the river, and it is set up for groups as much as for a quiet drink. Four floors of bars, games and private rooms fill a building that began as a picture house in the 1920s.

A cinema, then a pub

A cinema opened on the site in March 1925 and showed its last films in November 1956. The premises were then used as a warehouse for electrical goods. In 1995 they became a brewpub trading as the Fresher & Firkin, later known as the Graduate, and in 2010 Wetherspoon relaunched the building as the Tivoli. A blaze in March 2015 gutted the top floor and brought the roof down. The venue was afterwards sold to and restored by the City Pub Company, now part of Young's, and it reopened in May 2022.

Floor by floor

The ground-floor bar stocks a row of keg taps. In the basement, Club Shuffle has three 22-foot shuffleboard tables and a decked terrace next to the water. On the first floor, Electric Greens is a crazy-golf venue with two courses, and ARRERS is the augmented-reality darts setup. Every floor has its own bar, and the roof has a terrace. Pizzas come from PROOF Pizza and burgers from Burger Shack. Private hire and Christmas party packages are offered.

Practical notes

Opening hours on the website run from noon on weekdays and 10:00 at weekends; food times are listed on the website. Since 1 May 2025 the whole venue is for over-18s only after 5pm Sunday to Friday and after 3pm on Saturday; bookings that include under-18s must end by those times, and younger guests must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Booking in advance is recommended for the games, especially for evenings, weekends and larger groups.
