The Boathouse
A Greene King pub whose terrace steps down to the River Cam.
The Boathouse stands at 14 Chesterton Road, on the north bank of the River Cam and on the road that runs out from the city towards Chesterton. The Greene King page calls it a waterside pub, and its best feature is the riverside terrace, which CAMRA describes as stepping down to the water.
Inside and out
The ground floor is essentially open plan, but it is broken up into several drinking areas, one of them a snug, and a function room occupies the upstairs. Outside there is a beer garden by the river, and dogs are welcome. There is also a car park, with access for coaches.
Food, sport and events
The food is the Greene King pub menu, with fish and chips, pies and steaks, plus a children's menu. The pub shows Sky Sports and TNT Sports. The CAMRA listing, from a 2017 survey, records a Tuesday quiz, a Wednesday open-mic evening and a monthly comedy night on the last Thursday; the pub's own page does not list these, so check before making the trip. CAMRA also gives the pub's earlier name as the Rob Roy.
