The Alma
A former brewery tap with live rugby, six real ales and a monthly open-mic night.
The Alma is a pub at 26 Russell Court. Alma Brewery used to send its beer here: the pub was its tap until the brewery shut in 1909, and the old brewery land was later redeveloped for housing.
Sport, curries and music
Rugby is the speciality, with major fixtures put on three large screens and subscriptions covering Sky Sports, TNT Sport and Premier Sports. The weekly timetable is on the pub's website. Tuesday is curry night, when a drink buys you a pick from seven curries. The Thursday quiz costs a pound to enter. Every third Sunday from 7:30pm the Songsmith Sessions give singer-songwriters an open-mic slot; the event is free, and CAMRA dates it to 2011.
Food and drink
The kitchen turns out traditional pub food, with pies a particular strength. Six real ales are on, kept to the Cask Marque standard. As a Greene King pub it can take guest beers, and a Milton ale is often among them.
