Heritage School
A small co-educational independent day school on Brookside for ages 4 to 16, opened in 2007.
Heritage is a small co-educational independent day school on Brookside, for children aged 4 to 16. Its own website describes about 200 pupils and says the school opened its doors in September 2007. The title of its home page calls it a low-tech school.
Origins
The school started as a prep school with sixteen pupils, renting rooms at 19 Brookside from Sancton Wood School. It took over 18 Brookside in 2010 and opened a senior school the following year. It now holds its own lease on numbers 17 to 19.
Philosophy
Heritage draws on Charlotte Mason, the Victorian educationalist behind the PNEU movement. The school's site carries a parent quotation which describes it as "going back to the future", and one of its menu pages is titled Our History & Faith. The school states a Christian ethos and welcomes pupils of all backgrounds, including many American expatriate families.
The setting
Its home is a trio of Victorian houses on Brookside, a walk from the city centre and near the University Botanic Garden; playing facilities are elsewhere, a short distance away. The site covers a reception-to-Year 6 pathway, separate admissions pages for Years 7 to 10, and an enrichment programme.
