Salisbury Arms
A big Victorian pub near the station, known for stone-baked pizza and a CAMRA past.
The Salisbury Arms is a large Victorian pub at 76 Tenison Road, a short walk from Cambridge railway station. Inside there is a single bar with a steel top, and the decor leans towards shabby chic. Among the wall posters are some advertising the first beer festivals held in Cambridge.
Real-ale history
In the late 1970s it belonged to CAMRA (Real Ale) Investments Ltd, a short-lived chain of pubs owned by the campaign, and some locals still refer to it as the CAMRA pub. It is run by Wells & Co, and the cask and keg beers come mainly from the company's Brewpoint brewery in Bedford.
Food, events and practical notes
Pizza is the speciality, baked in a wood-fired oven that also cooks pots, and the pub bills itself as a craft pub serving stone-baked pizza. A small courtyard at the back doubles as the smoking area. Dogs are welcome in the bar. The programme includes quiz nights, with weekly deals such as a pizza and pint offer on weekday evenings and two-for-one pizzas on Mondays.
Opening hours on the pub's website are 12:00 to 23:00 from Monday to Saturday and 12:00 to 22:00 on Sunday, though these can change at bank holidays and Christmas. Food is served until 21:00 on weekdays and Sundays and to 21:30 on Friday and Saturday. The phone number is 01223 576363.
