Lammas Land
A family park south-west of the centre, with a pool, play area and a footbridge across to Sheep's Green.
Lammas Land is a park in the south-west of Cambridge, about half a mile from the city centre. Fen Causeway and Newnham Road border it.
What is here
The park has a pool and a large play area for children of all ages. There is also a tennis court, a table tennis table and a bowling green, which is the home of the Newnham Bowls Club. Public toilets and a car park of 75 spaces are on site.
Willows and the river
Many of the willows are ancient, and the council manages them by pollarding, a form of pruning that lets the trees regrow. A bridge leads from Lammas Land across to Sheep's Green and Coe Fen, another recreation ground, which includes a local nature reserve. Lammas Land is part of the Newnham area.
Practical notes
The council keeps the grass short in several areas, which suits a picnic. Problems in the park can be reported to the council on 01223 457000. See also Jesus Green and Midsummer Common for the city's other large open spaces.
