The Golden Hind is at 355 Milton Road, on the north side of the city. It belongs to a group of big suburban pubs put up in the 1930s by Tolly Cobbold, the Ipswich brewer, which are nicknamed the "Tolly Follies".

The building

Later alterations opened out what was once a pub of several separate rooms. CAMRA nonetheless points to original details that survive: an oval skylight above the bar, oak panelling in the former lounge, and a colonnade that once led to the patio. Large patios sit at the front and the back, and there is a beer garden.

Drink, food and sport

Greene King now runs the pub, which reopened with a new look. The website promotes live sport on Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Amazon screens, with football, rugby, F1 and darts all mentioned. The Hind also has a cashless pool table and a dartboard, and hosts live music and events. Food is the usual Greene King pub menu, served until 9pm. Dogs are welcome, and the pub has a car park, EV charging and coach access.

Practical notes

The pub opens at midday every day, closing at 11pm Sunday to Thursday and at midnight on Friday and Saturday. the CAMRA listing also mentions weekend breakfast openings, but the pub's own page gives a midday start, so rely on the latter.
